It's good, if you like those kind of things! The look and sound is pretty charming, it's not just some thrown out sprites and beeps because the creator can't do any better. You're just thrown out into the wild with vague clue on what you're supposed to do, and go wild. At the beginning you get choices of artifact to start the game, that wildly change how the game plays. One of them is an airship for example, that let you go wherever you want in the world /right at the beginning of the game/. It's really fun.By the nature of it, and choices in the game, most likely you won't be able to do everything in one run through. That's how it's supposed to be.But if you don't like 8bit graphic and interface, mostly nonexistant storyline, classic jrpg turn based combat, and hints mentioned by townspeople that aren't recorded in-game, I guess you won't like it.. I installed the game and my controller didn't work. They game was in a tiny window and there was no obvious way to make it full screen. So I googled and found that you have to hit alt-enter to go to full screen. No problem, though I shouldn't have to google for this information. So then I created a party and started the game. I went to the menu and looked for "options" to configure my controller. Nope, nothing there. So then I googled and found that you can hit f1 to get to the options. So I did that and.... it is all in Japanese. I did find the section for configuring the controller but it didn't matter, because the game simply doesn't support my controller. My SNES-style gamepad was supported by Shadows of Adam, Final Fantasy IX, all emulators, and every thing else I've tried to use it for, just not this game.I really wanted to play this game, but instead I will get a refund.. Would be nice to have cloud support so I can swap between computers when I need to. Otherwise, not a bad classic RPG, feeks reniniscent of Dragon Warrior/Quest but a bit more difficult in parts.. It's rad! I've been dying for something old school yet fresh! This game has a simple and neat premise, setting, classes, somewhat sandboxish, and feels very balanced. The art is great, the music is great, the game is clever. I recommend to anyone who likes casual RPGs, JRPGs, old school RPGs. Artifact Adventure 2?. Amazing game. A few minor bugs/glitches and slightly unclear game mechanics but an absolutely great example of an RPG.. Artifact Adventure is a love song to NES era RPGS of old. You'll recognize the tunes, you'll remember the sprites and the tile sets, you'll relive the journey through the caves and push forward to get that one last treasure before the long trek back out the cave. You'll cheer as you roll a critical hit at just the right moment, and you'll cry as your last hero falls to a random encounter. You already know what to expect from just the screenshots... but the game is so much deeper than that. Artifact Adventure is a simple tale of four heroes who journey the lands, building strength and helping others on their quest to kill the Evil Swamp King. The game has been available on Playism for a while, but just released on steam where it makes good company among the other retro-indie inspired JRPGS. The game has the "hook" of choice. Something that's familiar to many fans of modern RPGs like Dragon Age or The Witcher; choice is a large element of this game. However, the choices don't lead you down a "good" or "bad" ending.. but instead open you up to over 70 different endings in the game. Choices are varied enough to make each town and each event interesting.Do you tell the old man his son is dead, or soften the blow with a white lie? Do you help some stranger poison a guard to steal a relic, at a great profit to you - or protect the relic and secure the town's future. These choices matter, and have a lasting impact on the world. A rarity in this type of game. Also, not all choices are black and white, with choices having impacts you don't immediately realize. The first choice given to you is by the king. He asks you to pick between an airship, powerful magics, and the Key of Time. Once you make your choice, you are locked out from the others. This is just a taste of the choice system included in this game. Truly a treat. There is no "right" choice, and its not a binary one. You have three options, which is actually pretty common in this game. You can even choose not to choose... something i'm exceptionally pleased to see in a game. Conclusion: If you love NES era JRPGS, Christmas came early this year. If you prefer high graphics hold-your-hands style gameplay with quest logs and high quality cinematics, move along, this won't be your jam. Feel free to get a little sneak peak at some gameplay on my youtube channel, direct link below.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4dp2Lt9hpA. Feels pretty much exactly how a classic rpg feels, with all the good and bad that comes with that. You'll learn a lot by messing up. Graphics are pretty nostalgic, and the music's not bad. Absolutely worth the price.. It's a good game! Old-school RPG where you constantly feel like you're discovering new things about the world.. All of the tropes that I have been born to despise from JRPG genre are near to non-existent in this perculiar gem, and thats what made it playable - in a genuine good way.there are minimal spoilers here onwards, but I try to keep them to a minimal... As much as I try to love the JRPG genre as a whole, introductions that last for 2-3 hours and an introduction to the combat system that makes me feel like an idiot for not knowing what a 'fight or flight' response even is, subverts any expectations of slaying demons, dragons, monster ♥♥♥♥♥es who are hell bent to kill you and make this adventure an empowerment fantasy - according to the trailers! What normally happens, is me beating up cucumbers to get some shabby gear - so I just giveup before even the mid-game.But Artifact Adventure does not ♥♥♥♥ around and hand-hold you. You are given a descision to either get some Artifacts, The Key of Time, or an Airship. Literally the intro (without a tutorial! huzzah!) is like five text boxes and you can ♥♥♥♥ off to do whatever: such as retiring to a ship after selling off your party members to slavery, or get the Airship and hunt down some end-game loot, or just play the game traditionally. If my stigma for long and drawn out openings - mostly from JRPG's - hasn't sounded draconian to you, its like a breath of fresh air during an asthma attack. Most JRPG's have a rather generic line of quests you could do. And what I mean is that its either fetch quets, kill some monsters or this mini-boss in some fiendish cavern slash derelict civilisation - or a bit of both. However, not only Artifact Adventure gives you different ways to end quests and recieve different rewards for replay value, but it gives you plenty of moral descisions as to what the hell you are doing. I have never seen so many Yes or No descisions that can effect me on the fourth wall. While the impact might be indeed small, it is more than enough effort to keep quests from ever becoming tedious. And hey, its one of the few games that gives you decent rewards for being evil.I also cannot stress enough how the game is designed to keep grinding to the barest minimal - just doing all of the quests from the nearest town - rince and repeat - and you might reach the Swamp King without tedious grind. Pro tip: don't spam Guile of the Bandits or you may become underleveled if your not speed running.. Just feels like another Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest clone. I'd rather go play those games instead... I’ll tell you about them one at a time. “Pete”, the rookie knight. A patriot with a bright future, he’s been training since he was young. Take him along with you, and he’ll teach you how to use halberds to inflict death blows and how to defend against enemy attacks. “Emilia”, the castle pharmacist. Passionate in her research into healing all sorts of illnesses and injuries, she’s crucial to soldiers with life-threatening wounds. Take her along with you, and she’ll improve the effects of normal potions and use specially brewed potions to increase your natural fighting abilities. “Glen”, the war dog. Glen is a dog employed at the castle as an experiment. His trainer is training him thoroughly in order to ensure his permanent employment. Take him along with you, and he’ll help fight off fiends, provide chances for combo attacks, and help discover items and life globes during battle. “Jack”, the ex-bandit. Devoted to polishing his skills, he has stolen innumerable treasures without hurting anyone.Through no fault of his own, he ended up accidentally injuring someone during one of his heists, and so due to breaking his own rule, he turned himself in to the castle. His prison time has ended, but he still hangs out in the dungeons. Take him along with you, and he can help discover shortcuts through the dungeons, as well as teach you how to use fine blades and evade attacks. “Rey”, the kingdom wizard. A researcher of non-artifact supernatural powers, he has the power of prediction, fortune-telling, and seeing the future. Recently, he’s been acting strangely, saying he’s seen some sort of vision...Take him along with you, and he’ll teach you special powers such as how to increase the power of life globes, activate elements, and drawing in items. “Saturday”, the servant. A hardworking, serious, and trustworthy servant. With his immense strength and power, he’s perfect for hauling items and breaking stuff. He’s basically one big chunk of muscle. Take him along with you, and he’ll carry large amounts of items, teach you how to get stronger, and how to effectively use tools, broadaxes and such. Facing danger head on, things will get rough and you’ll need help. You should take maybe two of these people with you.http://store.steampowered.com/app/675490/Artifact_Adventure_Gaiden/. Steam Autumn Sales!: Hi AllThe Autumn Sales have started on Steam and we are going full on by hosting some phenomenal sales across the majority of our games!Dive into the full list of games which are up to 80% off on the Playism sale page!Nominate us for the Steam Awards!. # Battle with artifacts: Let's move on to battle using artifacts.Artifacts must be pre-equipped, and "Active Artifacts" can be activated using the "M", "," and "." keys.Except for certain items, "Passive Artifacts" provide permanent effects. No two artifacts are exactly alike, and it would be impossible to explain the effects of all of them. So here we'll just explain about equippable artifacts.First off is artifacts for attacking. The hordes of fiends appearing in the dungeons are, to a certain extent, fixed. As long as you don't touch a whirlpool, they're generally similar. As for the fiends composing these hordes, if they're mostly on the ground, then select a ground-based artifact. If they're mostly in the air, then select an air-based artifact. If you find there are some fiends you don't like or which are hard to approach in the horde, then you can select wide-range attack artifacts, or artifacts that will allow you to attack a fiend from a distance. Not only based on fiend hordes, if you personally prefer close-range combat, then select an artifact good for close-range combat, or an artifact that gives you an "aura".Auras have elements of both active artifacts and passive artifacts. With auras, on top of gaining skill boosts, making them active will make thoseskills improve even further for a set amount of time. These artifacts providing auras will prove useful in protecting yourself.Activate auras at the right time to easily avoid danger. There are also fiend-weaking artifacts, artifacts activated after fulfilling certain conditions, artifacts which summon a powerful force, artifacts which take full advantage of tools...Yeah, there really are all sorts of artifacts in the game world.Select them based on your enemies, or on yourself.Which artifact you use is up to you.Start off by finding the artifacts you like.http://store.steampowered.com/app/675490/Artifact_Adventure_Gaiden/. People in the castle are sure to help you out along the way. I mean, if you prefer, you could go off on your own.You may be able to see something different. As for those who would lend you a hand, inside the castle, the people most likely to help you out would be... First off is “Rex”. Known by many names, such as the world’s greatest adventurer, explorer, and traveler, he has been all around the world and is experienced in almost every area on the continent. Due to his extensive travels, he’s also quite experienced with the spider nests created by fiends.Having Rex accompany you on your journey is sure to make things much easier. Next is the greatest knight of our kingdom, “Roland”. The most skilled swordsman in the world, he also has the most noble spirit of any knight. Amazingly quick with his blade, having him on your team will make dealing with fiends a cinch.Traveling together with Roland will afford you all sorts of experiences, too. Next is the royal who has heeded his country’s call to arms, “Hershal”. Noble, thoughtful of the people, and extremely trustworthy, Hershal's power is not one which will help necessarily with your journey itself. To put it bluntly, he’ll likely even hold you back. There’s no real reason to choose Hershal, but there is one thing he has that will certainly prove useful. That would be cash. Blessed with the huge amount of resources Hershal possesses, you’ll have no trouble with finances on your adventure. These three are well known throughout the kingdom. They have wisdom, abilities, and resources like no other. They are all extremely capable of contributing to the kingdom and your mission. Even just one would make an excellent addition to your journey, but taking all three along with you will make it difficult to achieve each of their respective goals as well as your own. It’s probably best to just choose one.http://store.steampowered.com/app/675490/Artifact_Adventure_Gaiden/
